Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Are reservations required for tours? Yes, we require that you make a reservation in advance. This allows our staff to properly prepare for your tour. After making your reservation, you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail with details about your visit. During spring and fall quarters, space is limited and we suggest planning in advance for your visit.
  • Q: Can we meet with a counselor? Yes, we offer information sessions in a group setting during normal business days at 11 am and 3 pm during fall, winter and spring quarters. A noon information session is available during the summer months. In addition, you can visit one-on-one with an admissions counselor after making an appointment.
  • Q: Is there a fee for the tour? No. We gladly welcome you to visit our campus and meet with our students, staff and faculty.
  • Q: What is an "Individual / Family” tour? Almost all visitors will fit into this category. This is a tour for families or individuals who are bringing 9 or fewer prospective students. A separate tour reservation should be filled out for each prospective student.
  • Q: Do I need a parking permit for a tour? Parking regulations are in effect seven days a week on all UC Riverside property and permits are required. Visitors can purchase a reduced all-day parking permit for $7 for Lot 1 (nearest to the Campus Tours Office). If Lot 1 if full, other parking lots may used for overflow parking.
  • Q: When are tours available? Tours are available on the hour from 9 am to 3 pm, Pacific Standard Time. Reservations are required. Tours depart from the Tours Campus Office, located inside the Student Services Building. The Student Services Building is located across from Lot 1, in front of the Highlander Union Building. The Campus Tours Office is open Monday – Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.
  • Q: What will I learn on the tour? Campus tours are approximately 50 minutes long. Tours are led by current undergraduate students who are extremely knowledgeable about the campus and its programs. Each tour will include a brief history of UC Riverside, planned future growth, current academic undergraduate and graduate programs, student life and athletics. The route will include stops at a lecture hall, library, Campus Store, Highlander Union Building and popular student hangouts. Saturday tours are offered on select days and facilities available for viewing may be limited.
  • Q: What should I wear?
Visitors participating in a campus tour are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress comfortably to accommodate possible weather and temperature variations.
  • Q: I've scheduled a tour online. What if I need to change the date or time? You can change, reschedule or cancel a tour online or call our office at 951-827-8687. Canceling your tour allows your space(s) to open up to other visitors. DO NOT submit another tour request to cancel a tour. Doing so creates a duplicate tour reservation.
  • Q: Where Should I Stay? There are many lodging options available and we have listed several of the hotels near the campus for your convenience. Please note that some hotels will offer you a discounted rate if you request the UCR rate. The university is not affiliated nor is responsible for any third-party accommodations you arrange with the hotels listed.
  • Q: What happens if I show up to a tour early or late? If you show up to a tour early, you can grab breakfast or lunch on campus or we can seek to accommodate you on an earlier campus or residential hall tour. If you show up late, we’ll try our best to schedule you for our next available tour.
