Living Choices
UC Riverside Housing Services is committed to providing our students with safe, convenient, student-oriented, and student-responsive housing that makes a university education easier. This is particularly true for the first-year student. Residential living is the best way to start the first year of college. National studies have shown that students who live on campus are involved and do better academically. In addition to providing a place to eat and sleep, we assist first-year students in making a transition to adulthood and college life and continuing students as they work to achieve their academic goals. The unique opportunities of residential living cannot be obtained anywhere else.
UC Riverside offers three housing styles to meet the needs of all our students. Whether you choose to live in the residence halls, in campus apartments, or family housing, each provides the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that will supplement and complement your classroom experience. In addition, our on-campus police force, which patrols 24 hours a day, and our on-call housing staff are committed to providing a safe and secure environment.
Residence Halls
UC Riverside currently has three residence hall communities -- Aberdeen-Inverness, Lothian, and Pentland Hills.Take part in some of the more than 200 residence hall activities, including live music, barbecues, game shows, dances, sports tournaments, hall-to-hall competitions, community service projects, and cultural celebrations. These activities provide the opportunity to learn more about the diverse backgrounds and varied life experiences of your fellow residents. This will enrich your education at UC Riverside and provide you with lasting memories and lifelong friends.
Meal Plans. Students who live in the residence halls enjoy the luxury of good, nutritional food without the shopping and cooking. Some popular choices include deli, soup and salad bars, pizza, assorted desserts, and specialty food bars, all served in an all-you-can-eat setting. Residence hall dining facilities offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday through Friday, and brunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays. Meal plans and times are varied to provide residents with many options and flexible hours.
Campus Apartment Living
Students who live in campus apartments have the advantages of residence hall life combined with contemporary apartment living. Facilities include swimming pools, picnic and barbecue areas, and computer and study labs. Residence Life staff schedules programs, events, and activities throughout the year and also provide direct housing and personal assistance to residents.
Family Student Housing
Located on 55 acres, Canyon Crest Family Student Housing is economically priced to meet the needs of students with families. The neighborhood includes a park, playgrounds, picnic areas and a community center. The UC Riverside Child Development Center is located nearby. Residence Life staff offer year-round family-oriented activities to help build a strong community environment.
Off-campus Housing
If you plan to live off campus the Housing Services Office can help you find accommodations by providing online access to listings of privately-owned apartment complexes near the campus, temporary housing, and Roommates Wanted and Roommates Available listings.

Benefits of Campus Living
Recent studies indicate that students who live on campus during the freshman year are more successful in their academic pursuits than those who live off campus. UC Riverside residence halls provide facilities and programs to help you excel academically. Study lounges, seminar rooms, and all rooms are connected to the Internet. Computer labs are as close as a walk down the hallway. You can also take advantage of the ongoing tutoring, study groups, study skill sessions, and counseling provided by the campus counseling and career centers.
